Amanda Knox was born on July 9, 1987, in Seattle, Washington, to Edda Mellas and Curt Knox, a vice president of finance for Macy’s. Her parents are both German.
Knox was born and raised in West Seattle. Her parents divorced when she was 10, after which her mother remarried Chris Mellas, an information technology consultant. When she was 15, Knox went on a family holiday to Italy for the first time.
She arrived in Italy on a school tour and visited Rome, Pisa, the Amalfi Coast, and the ruins of Pompeii during her first visit. Amanda’s interest in the nation was piqued after reading Under the Tuscan Sun, which was given to her by her mother.
In 2005, Knox graduated from the Seattle Preparatory School and later studied linguistics at the University of Washington. She made the dean’s list at the university in 2007. To finance an academic year in Italy, she worked part-time.

The Hard-Time of Amanda Knox
Knox was a 20-year-old University of Washington language student who shared a flat with Kercher. She was in Perugia studying Italian, German, and creative writing at the University for Foreigners for one year.
Knox met Sollecito, her current boyfriend, at a classical music concert on October 25, 2007.
Knox and her partner Sollecito were tried for the murder.
Kercher’s house keys, rent money of 300 euros, and two cell phones were missing at the time of the murder on November 1, 2007, but her phones were discovered in the bushes by a neighbor several blocks away when Knox called Kercher’s numbers the next morning after finding the front door ajar.
The prosecution alleged that after Knox and Kercher argued about the stolen rent money, a knife fight had begun, as claimed by convicted suspect Rudy Guede (whose DNA was discovered on the body and purse).
Amanda Knox had over $4,000 in her bank account at the time, and she said she had no reason. Sollecito’s DNA was discovered in the kitchen ashtray and outside Kercher’s door frame, where he attempted to push open the door but not inside the room or on the body.
Sollecito was sentenced to 25 years in prison while Amanda Knox received 26 years behind bars.
In March 2015, the Italian high court upheld their 2013 acquittal in the death of Meredith Kercher. Despite being acquitted of murder, Knox’s guilty verdict for slandering Patrick Lumumba, a bar owner she falsely accused of involvement in the crime, was not reversed.
